Tesco Signs Eqos to Provide Global Sourcing Platform
7th September 2005
Tesco, the UK's largest retailer, has engaged supplier management specialists Eqos to provide a platform to manage its non-food global sourcing. "The new system is targeted to cut lead times allowing us to order earlier or delay buying decisions dependent on changes in the business," comments John Hoerner, CEO for Clothing, Tesco Stores Ltd. "It will also support better cost negotiations and provide us with additional flexibility to be more responsive to our Customers, especially in fast-changing product areas."
As Tesco has a key strategy to grow its sales in non-food, Eqos' technology will help the business to scale the volumes in this key trading area, using a collaboration tool to streamline sourcing activities and, in time, standardize processes across all sourcing hubs and operating companies.
The implementation will begin with the Home Shop and men's Cherokee offers and is expected to be implemented across the entire Tesco International Sourcing operation. Key benefits will be to eliminate duplication of activities and to simplify the communication of information, both internally, and between sourcing offices outside the UK and suppliers. The new system provides one master view of data which will be accessible to all relevant parties based upon security clearance for each section.
